Beginning Golfer Shoots Lower Score
Golf is a great way to enjoy time with your family and friends. Whether you play a leisure round of nine holes or are able to enjoy a full round of eighteen holes, the game of golf is rewarding on many levels. The best news is every beginning golfer can shoot a resonable score.
A beginner only needs a handful of items to get started. A few lofted golf clubs, say a nine and seven iron, and a putter. If you want, grab a metal wood, but no more than a five wood. Gather some golf balls, tees, a towel, and throw your stuff in a golf bag. You are ready to play some golf!
You are probably wondering about all the other clubs and why they were left out. They are for the golfer who is ready to mix playing golf with practicing golf. If it makes you feel less awkward, take the full set of clubs with you, just use the ones mentioned until you are comfortable with your golfing abilities. Let me explain myself.
Golf is a sport. Like all other sports a score determines the winner. In golf the lowest score or fewest strokes win. Most people who play sports enjoy competition. Why not learn how to play golf to win from the very beginning. After all an early success will bring you back to the golf course sooner. And I don't know of a better place to be than on a golf course.
If you are playing with others of your same ability you need to learn how to score the lowest. This is why you are only using a few clubs for now. If you can keep the ball moving forward towards the target (the flag) instead of sideways (the direction most beginners hit towards) you will always score lower than you opponent. The clubs that are easiest to hit are the ones with the most loft, your seven and nine iron. These will never travel as far as your opponent's big dog, (their driver or 1 metal) but they have a greater chance of moving the ball in the direction of your target. So it may take you six or seven shots down the fairway to reach the green, chances are your score will be less than your playing opponent when totaled.
Making solid contact with the golf ball will always win the game. Using the higher lofted clubs will have you hitting the ball with precise contact faster than any other club in the bag, except your putter. When you can stand at address over a golf ball with a seven or nine iron and hit a good shot seven out of nine times you can expand your club selection to any other club. I use this technique when teaching beginners to play and they are my proof that it works. The confidence you gain from hitting good shots by making solid contact will show up with every other club once you master the higher lofted irons.

Jerry and Janet Strain have been golfing for over 20 years. Both play with single digit handicaps and are fiercely opposed in couple's tournaments.

The Chronicles of Narnia DVD Review
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe
C.S. Lewis' imaginative and compelling story of four siblings who take a journey to a magical world by venturing through a wardrobe has finally arrived on DVD. The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe had a very successful tenure while in theatres and the DVD has been packed with some pretty nice features and extras to make the purchase worth it whether or not the viewer has seen the movie in the theatres.
The movie lacks a little in terms of acting and doesn't contain the big name stars of most big Hollywood movies, but the package comes together extremely well through the work of excellent scriptwriters and set designers. The story stayed right on track with the novel and contained most of the underlying Christian themes that were portrayed in C.S. Lewis' classic book series. The dialogue was superbly done and the interaction of characters and plot development moved extremely smoothly.
But the real star of the show was the environments in which the scenes were placed. Great set designers, green screens, and on-sight filming combined to grasp all of the majesty of the vast fantasy world of Narnia. C.S. Lewis' vision of the magical world was brought to life in amazing fashion and kudos goes out to those who put in all the hard work to make everything happen.
The movie carries a PG rating and, although it contains a few action scenes and one big climactic battle at the end, the violence was held to a minimal and blood was withheld for the most part in order to hold that PG rating. The younger crowds will be enticed by the fantasy setting and relatable characters and the older crowds who have read the Narnia novels will want to see the world and story portrayed accurately and done proper justice.
The bonus features included in the DVD include two commentaries, three featurettes, deleted scenes, and dozens of other features. These extras and bonus features are truly outstanding and make the purchase of the DVD well worth it even for those who took the trip to see the movie while it was in theatres.
The DVD version of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe is simply an excellent release that all fans of the movie and the book will want to be able to own and enjoy. The bonus materials are well worth it and the quality of the movie itself make revisiting it and watching it again well worth it.

Discover the Unique History of Mechanical Music, Part I
Copyright 2006 Monique Hawkins
The delicate sounds of a ballerina music box, inlaid music box, musical jewelry box, or music trinket box is loved by many a music box and antique collector. Some collectors and lovers of mechanical music may not realize the interesting history that is part of the world of music boxes and mechanical music. Let's discover what that is.
Attempts to create mechanical music reproductions really began in the third century B.C. Plato had an idea for making a water clock that would sound the hours of the night on pipes. He felt this was needed since darkness made it impossible to read the face of a clock. No one knows whether or not the clock was made, but it did reveal that interest to produce music automatically occurred very early in history. Singing birds and organs, which were worked hydraulically likely, were developed from Plato's clockwork idea.
After clocks were invented in AD 1000, more advances were made. Soon carillons of bells were made which played simple tunes on a barrel. Next came the barrel organ, which had air for the organ coming from bells driven by clockwork.
One of the most basic elements of mechanical music is how storage of the music is in a barrel or sheet, both of which rally make the memory of the instrument. The music was then set on the barrel with pegs and pins and on the actual sheet as perforation or projections. When rotated steadily and evenly against the levers, the levers then played an organ or carillon.
In 1502, the first mechanical music was made in the form of a barrel organ. The most famous one was the organ made in Salzburg for L. Von Keutschach. It had 350 pipes from which music from a barrel was played. The organ only had one tune for centuries until Leopole Mozart composed 11 more in 1753. Now, only 9 tunes survive on the original barrel. Announced with a grand and might chord, the locals have nicknamed it the "Salzburg Bull".
It is fascinating that mechanical music has been around for so many centuries. It puts a unique perspective on the history of collectibles such as music boxes, antique music boxes, ballerina music boxes, inlaid music boxes, musical jewelry boxes, and music trinket boxes.
